During the International Tourism Fair (FIT 2025), which took place from September 27 to 30 at La Rural, the Dominican Republic confirmed its leadership in the Caribbean and its strong ties with the Argentine market, recording historic figures that consolidate Argentina as one of its main source markets globally. The Caribbean country presented an unprecedented 89.5% growth in the arrival of Argentine tourists during the first half of 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year. This increase positioned Argentina as the third most important source market in the world, surpassing several traditional European destinations.
“FIT was the ideal setting to continue strengthening ties with our strategic partners and travel agencies in Argentina, a market that not only grew extraordinarily but also demonstrated sustained loyalty to our destination,” highlighted Enrique Penson, Director of Strategic Alliances for the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism. The profile of Argentine tourists who chose the Dominican Republic reflects clear preferences: most travel as a family (34%) or as a couple/adult (26%), with an average stay of 9 days. The favorite destinations were Bávaro–Punta Cana (72%) and La Romana–Bayahíbe (21%), while the excursion to Saona Island stood out as the most chosen activity, enjoyed by more than 50% of visitors. Tourist satisfaction was very high (4.6 out of 5), and 95.6% stated they would return to the country.
Travel agency intermediation remains key: of the 54% who purchased tour packages, 82.2% did so through travel agencies. Regarding accommodations, the vast majority stayed at resorts (96%), although 61.5% sought experiences outside the hotel, reflecting the interest in more experiential and diverse tourism. The Dominican Republic’s presence at FIT 2025 was enriched by a solid delegation of companies from the tourism sector, including Arajet, Princess Hotels & Resorts, Majestic Resorts, CocoBongo Show Disco Punta Cana, Punta Cana Hotels, Hotel Casa de Campo, Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort, RIU Hotels & Resorts, Blue Diamond Resorts, among many others. With this representation, the country reaffirmed its commitment to the Argentine market, strengthening alliances and showcasing the cultural, natural, and entertainment wealth that positions it as one of the most attractive destinations in the world.
At the closing press conference for FIT 2025, Andrés Deyá, President of FIT, and Daniel Scioli, Secretary of Tourism of Argentina, officially confirmed that the Dominican Republic will be the guest country for the 2026 edition, recognizing its sustained growth and the consolidation of the bilateral tourism relationship. Tourism continues to be a key driver for the Dominican economy. In the first eight months of 2025, the country welcomed more than 8 million visitors, 75% of whom arrived by air: 52% from the United States, 7% from Canada, and more than 15% from Latin American countries. The Dominican Republic also launched its new international campaign, “Dominicana te Sonríe,” highlighting the warmth, joy, and hospitality of its people as its main attraction. The initiative invites travelers to discover a destination that combines paradisiacal beaches, vibrant culture, and memorable experiences, reinforcing its position as the leading tourism destination in the Caribbean and the region.
